New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories to ensure respect for the Tricolour. It said that the national flag made of paper hoisted by the people after the event on occasions of national, cultural and sports events should not be broken or thrown down on the streets or on the ground. In an advisory issued on Friday ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the Home Ministry has directed strict compliance of the provisions of the Indian Flag Code.
It says that the flag of the country represents the hopes and aspirations of the people of our country and therefore it should always be respected. There is universal affection, respect and loyalty to the national flag. The Home Ministry said that there is a clear lack of awareness among the public as well as government organizations/agencies about the laws, practices and conferences applicable to the display of the national flag.
According to the Indian Flag Code, the national flag made of paper can be hoisted by the people on occasions of important national, cultural and sports events. Only paper flags are used by the public on occasions of important national, cultural and sports events. The Centre has said that such paper flags cannot be torn or thrown on the ground after the event.
