Mumbai: Four persons, including a suspended head constable and a journalist, have been arrested by the Agripada police in south Mumbai in connection with the incident of cheating a businessman of Rs 4 lakh. The constable had identified himself as a Crime Branch officer and his main motive was to threaten the businessman and extort money from him.

Head constables Chandrakant Gavre, Yogesh Lad, ward boy Sagar Singh (39) and a journalist were arrested. The police laid a trap and arrested all of them in this incident of cheating. The police saw Gavre in the CCTV footage, after which, his other accomplices were also nabbed on the basis of the identification.

In fact, on April 27, a businessman who deals in gold near Mumbai Central area approached the police and lodged a complaint against some persons for cheating them of Rs 4 lakh. Mohammed Siraj, a 36-year-old businessman, told the police that four men came to his shop around 2 pm and told him that he did not have the necessary licences and clearances to run the business. The police officer said that a group of four persons threatened the trader saying it was a raid and that they were not allowed to use cooking gas on the premises.
