The television series "Ramayan," created by Ramanand Sagar in the 1980s, remains a topic of fascination even today. Produced in an era devoid of advanced visual effects (VFX) and CGI technology, the show employed innovative techniques to depict its scenes, including the flying sequences of Pushpak Viman and Jatayu.

Sunil Lahri, who portrayed the character of Lakshman in "Ramayan," once shared insights into the filming of these iconic scenes. He revealed that the costume for Jatayu was incredibly heavy. To ensure realistic movement during flight scenes, the wings attached to the costume were manipulated manually by the actor himself.

Filming Jatayu's flight scene posed significant challenges. Lahri described the meticulous process of filming, which involved creative solutions to simulate flight with the help of hooks and wires. He also highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Pushpak Viman, an ancient mythical flying vehicle integral to Indian culture. The design for the show was based on artistic interpretations since no physical model of Pushpak Viman exists.

Apart from his role as Lakshman, Sunil Lahri also portrayed several other characters in "Ramayan," including Rishi Chyavan, Ravan's son, and the sage Sutikshna. His anecdotes from the sets reveal the dedication and ingenuity required to bring these epic characters to life on screen.

Lahri reminisced about the challenges of shooting battle scenes, such as the epic Ram-Ravan confrontation. Techniques like using strategically placed glass panes within the studio created the illusion of a vast army, enhancing the visual impact of the scenes.
