The festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated to welcome the spring season, on the fifth day of the month of Magh, a big celebration begins, in which the worship of Vishnu and Kamdev is also done. It is called the festival of Basant Panchami and is celebrated all over India. On this day, this festival is also celebrated at the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, popular in the national capital Delhi. On Basant Panchami, the dargah is decorated with yellow marigold flowers, and all the devotees who come to the dargah wear yellow clothes and wear yellow strips and turban on the head.
Basant Panchami has been celebrated here for the last nearly 800 years. Syed Kashif Nizami, Chief Incharge of Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, told IANS, “Like every year, this day was also celebrated as Sufi Vasantotsav. Qawwali is also celebrated on this day and a huge qawwali is offered in the pride of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya.” It is said that the festival of Vasant Panchami is celebrated not only at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin, but in the last few years, it has also been celebrated at some more dargahs.
Sayyid Adeeb Nizami, who supervised the dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, said, "Sufi Qawwal clad in a yellow veneer at the dargah on Basant Panchami offers songs by Sufi saint Amir Khusro at the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin." He further explained that "The festival of every religion should rise above religion, examples of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb are given in India." Actually, it is said that Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya was deeply saddened by the demise of his nephew. Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya loved his nephew very much. After the demise of the nephew, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya became unhappy and was so sad that he stopped meeting everyone. He did not even leave his office.
