New Delhi: The Cyber Police Station has arrested a girl who cheated users by trapping them in her love trap on Facebook in the North district. The criminal described herself as a citizen of the UK, UAE or other countries. She used to hunt in the name of sending expensive gifts to individuals. The culprit has been identified as Mehak (29) (name changed). Police have also traced 13 mobile phones, 16 SIM cards, one WiFi device, besides six Facebook and 1 Instagram account from the possession of the accused. After questioning, Mehak said that she had cheated more than 100 persons.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Of North District Sagar Singh Kalsi said that a case of cheating was lodged by Burari resident Dharmaraj on the cybercrime portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the past few days. The victim said that in the past few days, on his Facebook account, a woman Amara Gujral sent a request for a Facebook friendship.  

The same Dharmaraj accepted her friend request. A few days later, Amara started chatting with him. She described herself as a UK resident. Amara said she wants to come to Delhi soon. She kept chatting with the UK number. In the meantime, she also sent air tickets through WhatsApp to the victim for her arrival in Delhi. She talked about meeting Dharmaraj soon. The day Amara was supposed to come to Delhi, he received a call from another woman on the same day. She described herself as a customs officer at the Mumbai airport. She said that Amara has come with a hefty sum of money and gifts. But she does not have Indian currency, she can be bailed by paying 34 thousand rupees. Dharmaraj put the money in the said account. Then, again, 50,000 was demanded from him. When the same victim refused to give money, Amara blocked him on Facebook. On discovering the fraud, a complaint was lodged in the case. The cyber police station registered a case and started an investigation. Police station in-charge Ajay Dalal, SI Rohit Saraswat's team started an investigation into the matter.
