Punjab Women's Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati sacked from her post

Chandigarh: The Punjab government has removed Manisha Gulati, chairperson of the Punjab Commission for Women, from her post. On September 18, 2020, Manisha Gulati was given a 3-year extension by the Punjab government. According to the notice given to Gulati, there is no provision in the Act for extension beyond 3 years.

Bhagwant Mann government said in a notice sent to Manisha Gulati that no consultation has been done with the Women's Commission while granting an extension to Manisha Gulati. According to the notice, the Punjab government is withdrawing the extension given to Manisha Gulati. Punjab Women's Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati joined the BJP in February last year. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and BJP Mahila Morcha president Mona Jaiswal had inducted Manisha into the party. Manisha Gulati is considered very close to Captain Amarinder Singh. 

Manisha Gulati came into the limelight when she held a press conference about the Chandigarh university student recording a video in the hostel and sending it to her friends in Shimla. Gulati had said that no video of any student was recorded nor made viral on social media. Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal slammed her for being found laughing while talking to the media. Maliwal said that most of the women's commission offices have become kitty party offices.
