Moscow: The Russian tanker "Kama" saved a French citizen who was in trouble in the Atlantic Ocean, the nation's defence ministry reported on Tuesday. According to the military, a Russian naval detachment commanded by the frigate Admiral Gorshkov was on a patrol mission when it got a distress call from a small boat.

The tanker "Kama" was sent out right away to look into the call, veered off course, found the damaged yacht, and boarded it. According to the military statement, the crew brought "one man, his dog, and their personal belongings" aboard.

The man who was saved is a French national who was on his own and only had his dog with him. A storm that caused damage to his yacht also rendered its steering system inoperable and caused flooding on board.

The man was forced to send a distress call after being unable to fix the yacht on his own. The Russian sailors then came to his aid. The crew of the ship provided first aid to the man, and upon his request, the man will be taken to the closest port.
