New Delhi: The hearing on the Rewdi culture, freebie case was held again in the Supreme Court today i.e. on Wednesday. The matter was heard by a bench of Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramana, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice CT Ravikumar. Here the petitioner said that a committee should be formed under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court Justice, while SG Tushar Mehta said that the committee should be formed under the leadership of a former CAIG. 

On this, the CJI said that what is the value of the one who retires. The CJI further said 'I am sending this matter to the new bench, which will look into the earlier decisions given in the Manifesto matter.' With this, it has been determined that the three-judge bench will further hear the Freebie case. The CJI further said that the question is whether the issue of the pre-poll promise of freebies is one, while petitions have also been filed against the announcements of welfare schemes, then what will happen. On this, the counsel for the petitioner said that the pre-poll promise or scheme is a different matter. Prashant Bhushan started arguing on Freebie on behalf of an applicant. The CJI said that there are two questions here whether the promises were made before the elections and any action the Election Commission can take against them.

To this Prashant Bhushan said that the main problem in my opinion is that making a promise just before the election is a kind of bribe to the voter. On this, Kapil Sibal said that before the elections, such promises create an economic crisis, because they are not made keeping in mind the economic situation. Responding to this, SG Tushar Mehta said that parties make promises before elections to woo voters. Like giving electricity free of cost or something, this practice should be stopped.
