Israel-Hamas War Day-74: On Monday, the US declared that it would support Israel's war against Hamas and demanded additional humanitarian supplies for the displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. As the third month of the bloodiest-ever Gaza war continued, strikes on the Jabalia camp in Gaza City claimed another 110 lives, according to the health ministry run by Hamas.
1) On Monday, Hamas made public a brief film featuring three elderly Israeli hostages that the Islamist organization had taken during its October 7th attack. According to Reuters, Israel condemned it as a "criminal, terrorist video."
2) The three men - identified by Israel as 79-year-old Chaim Peri, 80-year-old Yoram Metzger, and 84-year-old Amiram Cooper - were taken hostage over 10 weeks ago with about 240 others by Hamas infiltrators who carried out a killing spree in Israeli communities.
3) At the end of November, with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a week-long ceasefire that involved the release of over 100 captives in Gaza in return for the release of 240 Palestinian women and teenagers from Israeli prisons.
5) As members stepped up negotiations to try to avoid another veto by the United States, the UN Security Council postponed until Tuesday morning a vote on an Arab-sponsored resolution calling for a halt to hostilities in Gaza to allow for desperately needed aid deliveries to a large number of civilians, according to AP reports.
6) On December 8, the US rejected a Security Council resolution that called for an urgent humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza and was supported by dozens of other countries.
7) The draft resolution that the fifteen council members were debating on Monday acknowledged that Gaza's civilian population lacks access to enough food, clean water, sanitary conditions, electricity, telecommunications, and medical care that are "essential for their survival."
