Srinagar: Fahad Shah, editor of news portal 'The Kashmir Wala', has been arrested by the police on Friday (February 4, 2022) in Srinagar, the capital of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Fahad Shah is accused of glorifying anti-national activities and sharing inflammatory content on social media platforms. The police have informed that the journalist committed this with criminal intention to disturb law and order and to incite people.

A statement issued by the Pulwama district police said, "Some Facebook users and portals are posting anti-national content, including photographs, videos and posts with criminal intent, to create an atmosphere of panic among the public. The content so uploaded may incite people to disturb the law and order. Police have already summoned Fahad three times over the content of the portal. On January 31, the Pulwama police had called Fahad for questioning and later released him.

The police then called him again on February 1 for questioning. He was then summoned to the Pulwama police station on February 4 to record his statement and then taken into custody. According to the police, Fahad has been detained during the investigation of the case under FIR no. 19/2022. PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti condemned the police's move, saying that standing with the truth has now become anti-national. Showing the mirror to the government is also an anti-national act.

Fahad is the editor of the online news portal 'The Kashmir Wala', which started in the year 2011. It claims to cover news and other socio-cultural news in Jammu and Kashmir. The portal had also opposed the decision of the Modi government on August 5, 2019, to revoke Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, Sajjad Gul, a trainee reporter of 'The Kashmir Wala', was also arrested through his tweet for allegedly instigating people against the government and spreading hatred. A case has also been registered against its journalist Yashraj Sharma.
