If asked who is the father of Hindi cinema, the first answer will be Dadasaheb Phalke. But who is the mother of Bollywood? Who has been a mother of film industry for 20 years? 'Mere Pass Maa Hai' was the dialogue given for her. Nirupa Roy has played mother in nearly 200 films. Today is the death anniversary of Nirupa Roy. Let's know about some interesting things about her on this special occasion.

Nirupa, born in the year 1931, in a Gujarati family, had the childhood name Kokila Kishore Chandra Balsara. She was married at the age of just 15. She moved to Mumbai after marriage. She had two children, Yogesh and Kiran. In 1946, she saw an ad in a Gujarati newspaper. The artist was required. She sent her profile and was selected. Her first Gujarati film was Ranakdevi. She was cast by director Homi Wadia during the same year. The name of the film was Amar Raj and the hero with her was Trilok Kapoor.

Her pairing with Trilok Kapoor was the biggest hit. The two acted together in 18 movies. In the beginning of her career, she portrayed the goddess in many films. People started coming to her house considering her as a real Goddess. In Amitabh Bachchan's films, no other actress has become a girlfriend as many times as Nirupa Roy has become his mother. She has done around 250 films in her career, for which she received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. She was arrested in the year 2001 for dowry with husband Kamal Roy and son Kiran Roy. Daughter-in-law Una Roy had filed a dowry harassment case. She died of a heart attack on 13 October 2004. She was 72 at the time.
