New Delhi: An image of female breasts anatomy has been going viral on social media and other websites and is leaving people amazed at the brilliance and beauty of it. Many people have found the picture extremely interesting which forced them to share it with others. However, according to recent reports, the picture is inaccurate and false.a

ABC News stated that the image first went viral on the internet in 2016 and is actually inaccurate and is a screenshot from an application. The image shows milk ducts as flower-like structures, even and muscular, while the reality of the female breasts is much different than this.

What is the actual anatomy of the female breasts?

According to the source, the breasts contain mainly of three parts – the main breast, the areola – which is the skin around the nipple, and the nipple itself. The growth of the breasts is guided by estrogen at the time of puberty. The size of the breasts changes due to the hormones in the body and the breasts are usually bigger during pregnancy. The breasts also contain milk glands or the mammary glands that produce breast milk for babies.

As stated in the reports, the breasts cannot contain muscles that form the flower-like structure present in the viral image as the breasts do not contain any skeletal muscles. According to a female reproductive biologist, professor Christopher Murphy from the University of Sydney School of Medicine, and as reported by the ABC, the picture is “highly diagrammatic and symmetrical.”

The milk ducts are also not as evenly distributed as shown in the image and social media might have tricked us into believing something inaccurate about our own bodies.
