New Delhi: A team of Air Customs Preventives at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in the national capital has recovered gold worth Rs 42 lakh unclaimed on board an Air India flight coming from Lucknow. According to the customs department, the Air Intelligence Unit of The Delhi Customs had received information from sources that gold was smuggled from Lucknow to Delhi on Air India flight number AI-432.
At the same time, Air India flight number AI 432 arrived at Delhi airport from Lucknow. The investigation showed unclaimed goods tied in black taps inside that flight. After the security alert, the packet was checked and opened. In fact, about 830 grams of gold has been recovered in the packet. In this packet five cut pieces of gold were present. The price of which in the global market is estimated at around 42.54 lakh.
At the same time, according to the customs department, the details of the crew members, including the passengers who came from the flight, are being scanned. In such a situation, it is feared that someone smuggled the gold and then left in the flight for fear of being caught. However, taking action on this, the team of customs has seized the gold recovered under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 and has started further investigation.
