New Delhi: After curbing Chinese toys, the Modi government at the Centre is now seriously considering boosting the domestic toy market, so that Indian toys can make a splash all over the world. In fact, to make domestic manufacturing globally competitive, the central government is now brainstorming about giving PLI benefits related to the production of Rs 3,500 crore.
However, according to the report, this benefit will be given to those who are compliant with the Standards of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). An official has told the media that the introduction of quality control orders and increasing customs duty from 20 percent to 60 percent have helped in reducing sub-standard imports and promoting domestic manufacturing. The official has said that now the PLI benefit to toys will help attract investment and increase exports.
Talking to the media, the official said that now we are working on giving PLI (Production Linked Incentive) benefits to toys, but it will be given only to BIS-compliant toys. PLI benefits can be given according to different investment slabs, which can range from Rs 25 crore to Rs 50 crore or Rs 100-200 crore.
