The festival of Makar Sankranti is celebrated with gaiety across the country. On the special occasion of Sankranti, people fly kites and are seen enjoying the dishes made of jaggery and sesame seeds. People celebrate the festival of Sankranti with fun and gaiety. On this day the sun enters Capricorn. On this day people make khichdi and charity is of special importance. It is also known as Makar Sankranti in North India, while in South India it is also known as Pongal. Many celebs including Akshay Kumar (Akshay Kumar), Manoj Bajpayee (Manoj Bajpayee), Kangana Ranaut have also extended their best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Mankar Sankranti and Pongal.

The festival of Pongal is celebrated on this day in the South. On this special day people decorate their homes and are making traditional dishes.
