Four Indian medical students tragically drowned in a river near St Petersburg, Russia, prompting Indian missions in the country to coordinate with local authorities for repatriating their bodies to their families. The students, two boys and two girls aged between 18 and 20, were studying at Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod city.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred when a female Indian student ventured into the river Volkhov from a beach and encountered difficulty.
