Parenting is tough, this is not at all denying but it is also important what’s the environment of a kid because kids catch what they see or what they hear. In their quest to make their child the best of the lot, parents end up saying hurtful things to them. It may be said in anger, without thinking, but children remember this negativity and internalize it. Something that may seem insignificant to you may have a lasting impact on your child and shape who they become.

Some of the things parents should stop saying to their children:-

1. ‘’BOYS DON’T CRY, STOP CRYING. ARE YOU A GIRL?’’

Parents should know that gender role are one of the reasons they grow up fucked up, and they need to end this terrible vicious cycle.

2. ‘’WHY CAN’T YOU BE MORE LIEK YOUR COUSIN?’’

A child should be like themselves, not like someone else.’’

3. ‘’SIT PROPERLY, WALK PROPERLY, TALK SOFTLY. A GIRL SHOULD BEHAVE A CERTAIN WAY, AND YOU MUST STICK TO THAT.’’

Encourage your kids to be themselves instead of telling them, from the beginning that they need to conform to some illogical societal norm.

4. ‘’WE PAID FOR YOUR EDUCATION, PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON YOUR BACK, AND GAVE YOU A ROOF TO LIVE UNDER.’’

This constant reiteration of the things our parents do by way of a basic upbringing is a shit argument. You decided to have children, this is on YOU.

5. ‘’DON’T ARGUE WITH ELDERS, EVEN WHEN IF THEY ARE WRONG, STAY QUIET AND DO AS YOU ARE TOLD.’’

A child should have their own opinion. And parents should be happy if their child has the confidence to take on someone older than them and make sense while doing it.

6. ‘’STOP ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS.’’

I think parents should encourage their kids curiosity, not stifle it with such statements.
