The author has essentially been “canceled” by her fans this summer for the bad and hurtful comments that she made about the transgender community. Eddie previously spoke out to express that he supports the trans community and he disagrees with JK‘s comments.

Recently, in a news interview with a leading American daily, Eddie stated that he was alarmed by the “vitriol” sent to Rowling, which he said was “absolutely disgusting.” He did note that he found the abuses being sent to trans people on social media to be “equally disgusting.” He further added, “I would never want to speak on behalf of the community but I do know that my dear transgender friends and colleagues are tired of this constant questioning of their identities, which all too often results in violence and abuse. They simply want to live their lives peacefully, and it’s time to let them do so.”

“Similarly, there continues to be a hideous torrent of abuse towards trans people online and out in the world that is devastating,” Eddie said. Eddie played the role of a transgender woman in the movie The Danish Girl and received an Oscar nomination for his performance. He says that he has many “trans friends and colleagues” who are “having their human rights challenged around the world and facing discrimination on a daily basis.” Currently, after a six-month break due to the pandemic, The actor is now back at work on the third Fantastic Beasts movie, which was written by Rowling. Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson also stated their disagreement.
