Islamabad: Pakistan's troubles facing starvation, economic misery, and power shortages, do not seem to stop. Pakistan, which is pleading with western countries including the IMF for a loan, will be facing another problem. Now the Islamic country Iran has threatened to impose heavy fines on Pakistan. Iran has said that it will impose a fine of $18 billion on Pakistan. Its value in Pakistani rupees is about 48 thousand 960 crores. The amount of the fine is so high that Pakistan will not be able to arrange so much money under any circumstances.
The reason for this threat of Iran is a gas pipeline. In 2009, a deal was signed between Pakistan and Iran to lay a gas pipeline. Then there was the Government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The PPP is the party of former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari. According to the agreement, Pakistan was to lay a pipeline of about 800 km in its territory. After the completion of the work, Iran was going to supply gas to Pakistan, but this project has been stalled for 14 years.
The biggest reason for this pipeline not being completed so far is America. Pakistan says that the US has stopped Pakistan from completing the project citing sanctions imposed on Iran. Iran has already laid a pipeline on its side years ago. Whenever Iranian officials ask Pakistan to complete the pipeline on its side, it avoids Iran's demand, citing US sanctions. Pakistan says that we are ready to lay pipelines but are not able to do so due to US sanctions. Troubled by this delay of Pakistan, Iran has made a mood to impose a heavy penalty on it.
