Dehradun: In Uttarakhand, the work of filling water in the lake of Vyasi dam, which was completed in village Juddo on Yamuna river, has now reached the last stage. With the rise in water level on Monday, water has come in Lohari village, which came under the submergence area. From about 3 o'clock the water started filling in the village. Thereafter, the ever-increasing water level took the village houses, cowsheds, farm-barns and parks etc. in its lap. On the other hand, the project officials claim that by late night the amount of water level fixed for the dam will be ensured.
The work of filling water in the dam built for the Vyasi hydroelectric project, which will prove to be a milestone in the state in the field of power generation, has reached the final stage. This 120 MW hydropower project will play an important role in freeing the state from the power crisis. Lohari village, which came under the submergence area due to waterlogging in the dam built for the project, was also flooded today.
The village was evacuated by the hydroelectric corporation and the administration several days ago. The families living in the village were shifted to a government primary school built at a height in the village itself and 12 other houses in the hydroelectric corporation colony. Rajiv Agarwal, officer-in-charge of the project and assistant general manager of the Hydro Power Corporation, said that the water level at the Vyasi dam has reached 629 metres at present. By late night, the water level is expected to reach a fixed 631 meters. He also informed that after the completion of the water content, the work of transporting the power generated from the turbines to the power grid will be started from this week. In addition, by the last week of April, the state will start getting electricity from the project. He said that the compensation fixed to the villagers and various other dues have already been paid.
