Threat to Mumbai Airport: Demand of $1 Million Bitcoin for Terminal 2 Bombing

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport faced a menacing threat on Thursday, November 23, as an email received at the airport's feedback inbox, containing a chilling ultimatum to detonate Terminal 2 unless a ransom of USD 1 million in Bitcoin was paid within 48 hours. The sender, operating under the alias 'quaidacasrol@gmail.com', issued a stark warning to authorities, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

According to Mumbai Police, a case has been filed against an unidentified individual for threatening communication, invoking sections 385 and 505 (1) (b) of the Indian Penal Code. The email, time-stamped around 11 am on Thursday, struck fear with its explicit message: "This is a final warning to your airport. We will blast Terminal 2 within 48 hours unless one million dollars in Bitcoin is transferred to the address. Another alert will be after 24 Hrs."

In response to this grave situation, an intensive investigation into the "email threat" has been launched to apprehend the perpetrator behind this act of extortion.

This incident follows a recent scare in October when an Akasa Air flight bound from Pune to Delhi made an emergency landing in Mumbai due to a passenger's false claim about a bomb in their luggage. LiveMint reported that the individual, later identified as suffering from chest pain, was taken to a hospital from the airport. Authorities disclosed that the passenger had carried medication for chest pain aboard the flight. The person responsible for the false alarm has been detained by the police, although their identity remains undisclosed in initial reports.

The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) and law enforcement agencies are taking stringent measures to ensure the safety and security of passengers and airport facilities amid these distressing incidents.
