Gunshots could be heard in the background of the game in the shocking video, which then abruptly cut to commercial break as many spectators fled.

At the intersection of Whitmer and Edgar, close to the high school stadium, shell casings have reportedly been discovered.

Central Catholic was playing Whitmer High School.

Before the video ends, the announcer says, "We're going to break."

It's unclear whether or when the game will resume now that it's been paused.

On Friday night, Washington Local Schools provided WTOL11 with a statement.

"We are extremely saddened that an act of violence in the area around our event tonight ruined a friendly rivalry. We only currently have a limited amount of information, so we won't speculate until we do.

"An incident like this is every school district's worst nightmare, and we ask that you keep both Central and Whitmer in your thoughts as we try to understand this horrific act," the statement reads.

The inquiry is still ongoing.
