For the first time in the history of India's sports, three awardee COVID-19 will not be able to participate in the National Sports Awards event being organized virtually. 65 out of 74 awardees will participate in the event in different parts of the country. All of them have been subjected to corona investigation by the Sports Authority of India. On 29 August, President Ramnath Kovind will give the online award.

Doubleday specialist shuttler Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy, selected for the Arjuna Award, turned out to be corona-tested positive, in addition to two other award-winning positives. These three will not participate in the program. Awards have been called by Sports Authority of India in various parts of the country. Sports Minister and Ministry officials will be staying at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, while President from President House will award the players virtually. The nine players who are not being awarded. Cricketers Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma are not attending the event due to being in the UAE for the IPL.
