New Delhi: In response to the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA) in the European Union on July 1, TikTok has announced a series of changes to its platform to meet the regulatory requirements and prioritize user safety and data protection.
Aiming to give users more control over their content consumption, TikTok will now allow European users to turn off the "For You" feed, which is the primary way the platform delivers content to its users. This feature empowers users to curate their content experience according to their preferences.
To bolster efforts against illegal content, TikTok will enhance the reporting mechanism for European users. The company is set to provide more detailed information on the actions taken on user-reported content, ensuring greater transparency in the process.

In line with the DSA's directives, TikTok has taken a step towards safeguarding young users' privacy. Targeted advertising for users aged 13 to 17 in Europe will be prohibited, ensuring that minors' personal data is not exploited for advertising purposes.
Acknowledging the importance of transparency, TikTok will now provide more comprehensive insights into its content moderation decisions. By publishing additional information about the criteria for removing content from the platform, TikTok aims to foster greater trust among its user base.

The DSA has emerged as a pivotal piece of legislation with profound implications for online platforms. Key provisions of the DSA mandate platforms to safeguard user data, expunge illegal content promptly, disclose their algorithms transparently, and grant users greater control over their personal information.
TikTok's commitment to aligning with the DSA requirements underscores its dedication to providing a secure and equitable platform for its users. As the DSA continues to evolve and impact the digital landscape, these changes mark a significant stride towards enhancing user protection and accountability in the online realm.
