SULVASSA: A new 100-meter-long steel bridge was inaugurated on August 25 for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, near Silvassa in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, an official statement seen.

The steel bridge, weighing 1464 metric tons and measuring 14.6 meters in height and 14.3 meters in width, was fabricated in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. It was transported to the installation site using trailers.

For the bridge's installation, a temporary launching nose spanning 84 meters and weighing 600 metric tons was attached to the main bridge to facilitate the process without additional support. Extra temporary structures were added to reinforce the bridge during the launch.

A total of 27,500 high-strength friction grip (HSFG) bolts were used to connect the launching nose components. Additionally, approximately 55,250 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts with C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings were utilized for securing the main bridge.

The bridge, along with the launching nose, was assembled at a height of 14.5 meters above ground on temporary supports. It was moved into position using an automated system with two semi-automatic jacks, each with a capacity of 250 tons, and mac-alloy bars.

The Bullet Train project, which emphasizes safety and engineering precision, benefits from Japanese expertise while utilizing Indian technical and material resources under the "Make in India" initiative. This new steel bridge is a significant milestone in the project's progress.

This bridge marks the fourth of 28 steel bridges being constructed for the Bullet Train corridor. The project includes a total of 24 river bridges, with 20 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. Out of the 20 bridges in Gujarat, 10 have already been completed.

The project was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad on September 14, 2017.

National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), established on February 12, 2016, under the Companies Act, 2013, is responsible for financing, constructing, maintaining, and managing the High-Speed Rail Corridor in India. The company operates as a 'Special Purpose Vehicle' with equity participation from the Central Government through the Ministry of Railways and the State Governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
