Kolkata: BJP performed well in Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections. After this performance of the party, there was a stampede in the ruling TMC in the state. Many big leaders of the Trinamool Congress joined the BJP. In this episode, former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee also joined BJP. His close aide Baisakhi Banerjee claimed this on Saturday.

Chatterjee, a four-time MLA from TMC, joined BJP on August 14 in New Delhi. Banerjee told reporters here that ever since joining BJP, we are being dishonestly insulted. He said "I was the one who inspired Chatterjee to join BJP. Many senior leaders were present while him joining the BJP. However, Chatterjee, who is close to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, has not yet made any formal announcement to leave the BJP."

Due to the problems in Chatterjee's personal life, Mamata asked him to step down as Kolkata Mayor and Minister. There is a fierce fight between BJP and ruling TMC in Bengal. After the weakening of the Left and the Congress, the BJP has emerged as a new force there. BJP is now aiming for this eastern state. BJP wants to strengthen its hold in the country's politics by registering a  win in an important state like Bengal.
