Guwahati: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Assam unit chief, Ripun Bora, cautioned leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) to exercise caution in their statements, as he expressed concerns that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might twist their words to tarnish the opposition alliance.
In response to a statement by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah, in which he announced their intent to contest all 14 seats in Assam during the 2024 general elections, Ripun Bora emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.
Bora stated, "The statement that the Assam Congress President made is totally unwanted and such statement may create confusion not only among the constituents of the I.N.D.I.A. partners but also the common people too, as everyone’s ultimate goal is to fight and defeat the BJP. This is the need of the hour and the people have already made up their minds to oust the BJP from power this time."
He urged leaders not to make statements that could hurt the sentiments of the constituents and jeopardize their unity. He highlighted that the BJP is keen on finding fault with the opposition alliance and may distort their words to create divisions.
Ripun Bora emphasized the need for caution, considering the BJP's propensity to propagate disinformation campaigns against the I.N.D.I.A. bloc through its IT cell.
He also noted that the TMC is the largest party in the Eastern region among the I.N.D.I.A. constituents. While there are 28 parties in the alliance, the TMC stands as the second-largest and most visible party in Assam after the Congress.
Regarding the "cash for query" controversy involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Bora refrained from commenting, as the matter is currently sub judice and is related to the Indian Parliament, with the ethics committee already addressing the issue.
