The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a message that appeared in which the principal of Tripura Institute of Technology invited students and staff members to attend the inaugural event of the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Tripura. The letter further indicated that lessons will be cancelled on January 4 to allow students to attend the event at Swami Vivekananda Maidan.

In a tweet, the AITC said, “HYPOCRISY of Mr @narendramodi EXPOSED! Will education and safety of students NEVER be a priority for Mr Modi? Classes to remain suspended so that students can attend Modi ji's program! Is this how he plans to pull crowds? By risking so many lives during #COVID19? SHAME."

In another tweet, the party tweeted a similar letter from the Government of Tripura Labour Directorate, asking its employees to attend the Prime Minister's event on January 4, which has been scheduled at Swami Vivekananda Maidan.

The notices, according to the party, were intended at the PM's "insecurity" about his "dwindling popularity." They went on to say that, in light of the increase of Covid-19 instances owing to Omicron, the Prime Minister "DOES NOT CARE about the number of lives he's putting at danger."
