"President's rule will be imposed in Bengal before Lok Sabha elections," TMC leader tells BJP's plan

Kolkata: A senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader has alleged that the Centre's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has plans to impose President's rule in West Bengal before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In an interview, Rajya Sabha MP and TMC national spokesperson Sukhendu Sekhar Roy claimed that the BJP has devised an all-around strategy to achieve this objective. According to him, the BJP is working with plans to separate North Bengal from the rest of the state, often express concern over the state's law, use the CBI and other agencies and use the governor as an "agent of the Centre and the BJP party."

Roy further said, "Union Home Minister Amit Shah had chosen North Bengal for his rally during his recent visit. The Central Government is trying to divide the country from within and cut north Bengal from the rest of the state because they know that without doing so, they cannot win. If that is not the case, how could the party MLAs raise the issue of separating North Bengal from the dais in the presence of the Union Home Minister?" Roy said, adding that under the second scheme, there is a constant question and raising concerns regarding the law and order situation in Bengal.

He further said 'Recently after the death of BJP youth wing leader Arjun Chaurasia, Amit Shah reached the spot and demanded a CBI inquiry. The issue of post-election violence was raised time and again. The BJP has filed PILs in the Rampurhat violence in Bogtui villages, the Hankhali gang rape and every other incident.' Roy claimed that the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal government has taken prompt action in all these incidents. According to Roy, as part of the third strategy, the BJP is using central agencies against the leaders and ministers of Bengal after the TMC's thumping victory in the assembly elections in May 2021. He said that after the results of May 2, several senior TMC ministers were arrested in connection with the Narada scam case. At the same time, BJP Leader of Opposition (LOP) Suvendu Adhikari, who was seen taking bribes on camera, was not even summoned by the CBI.

According to him, the fourth plan is to use the office of the governor in Bengal. Roy said that the Governor of Bengal is tweeting, holding press conferences against the state government, giving interviews to local and national media, and summoning the Chief Secretary from time to time. No governor in the entire country, past or present, has done so. The governor is acting as an agent of the ruling party at the Center and interfering in the affairs of the state.
