Kolkata: Amid the ongoing row over the upcoming release of a biopic featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee launched a stinging attack against the PM, asking what major contribution has he made to the nation.

To be noted that Banerjee said the country would instead prefer to watch biopics of Mahatma Gandhi, the late father of the nation; and Dr Bhimrao Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. "Why will people watch your film? If people want to watch films they will watch films on Gandhiji, Ambedkar ji, why Modi? What contribution he has made to India," the West Bengal CM questioned, while addressing a rally in Cooch Behar on Thursday. Responding to the allegations of poll code violation, the film producers - producers Anand Pandit, Acharya Manish, Sandeep Singh and Suresh Oberoi said they are not connected with the Bharatiya Janata Party, and therefore the movie cannot be considered to be in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

However, the 'PM Narendra Modi' movie, slated for release on April 12, has been challenged by the Opposition and civil society members. The Congress and the Left has appealed the Election Commission to block the movie's release citing the Model Code of Conduct. Petitions have been filed before the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court, seeking judicial intervention in the matter. The petitioners have asked the courts to issue an order postponing the movie's release post the conclusion of Lok Sabha elections 2019.
