New Delhi: Counting of votes for assembly elections in five states including West Bengal is underway. In the trends so far, the people have hinted at bringing back the ruling party in three states. In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is once again seen scoring a hat-trick, while the BJP is once again seen returning to power in Assam with a clear majority. In Bengal, the TMC is leading in more than 200 seats, while in Assam, the BJP has taken 80 out of 126 seats.
At the same time, the Left Government seems to be returning to Kerala. Though the BJP is likely to form the government for the first time in the union territory of Puducherry, the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu is heading for a big victory. The BJP had high hopes for the elections in five states held between the crisis of corona in March and April, but it has been disappointed in Bengal. Polling was held in 292 seats in the state, out of which TMC is leading in 202, while BJP is leading in 77 seats.
In this way, in the trends, TMC has gone out of the figure of 147 seats required to form the government. Even though the BJP has not got seats as expected, it is also a success to have such a large number of seats in the BJP account, which won three seats in 2016.
