Etawah: Chief ministerial candidate Ramphal Balmiki, backed by his family, has been elected from SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav's village Saifai in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. The victory is huge as Ramphal Balmiki got a total of 3,877 votes while a woman named Vinita got only 15 votes besides him. Mulayam Singh Yadav's village Saifai has gone to the polls for the first time since independence. In fact, there has never been voting here before. The prime minister's post has always been elected through uncontested elections. For the first time since Independence, a Dalit caste has become a chief here.

Since 1971, Mulayam Singh Yadav's friend Darshan Singh Yadav has been elected as the chief of Saifai village. He passed away on October 17 last year and the seat was then lost. In the general panchayat elections, the head post of Saifai village was reserved for the Scheduled Castes. On the other hand, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's cousin Abhishek Yadav is also heading for a one-sided victory.

Abhishek Yadav is currently leading by 3,780 votes. Abhishek Yadav got 4,125 votes while his nearest rival Rahul Yadav of BJP got 345 votes till the 10th round of counting. Abhishek Yadav is the candidate for the post of Zilla Panchayat member from Saifai. There is also the outgoing Zilla Panchayat President from here.
