TMC's Abhishek Banerjee Steps Up: Funds Reach Protesting Workers

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has fulfilled his commitment to provide financial assistance to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers who participated in the recent two-day protest in Delhi. The protest aimed to draw attention to the delayed release of central funds for MGNREGA work. Despite Banerjee's initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised questions about the source of the distributed funds.

Abhishek Banerjee, during his two-day agitation in Delhi, was arrested for protesting against the Centre's delay in releasing MGNREGA funds for 100 days of work. He had assured the protesters that if the Centre failed to disburse the funds within two months, he would personally cover the expenses.

On Monday, before the November 30 deadline, Abhishek Banerjee's financial assistance reached the MGNREGA workers who hadn't received payments for their work. Trinamool sources reveal that Banerjee sent money and letters to 3,000 individuals, initiating the process on Saturday.

In the letter, Trinamool's All India General Secretary conveyed, "Financial aid has been sent as promised earlier. Stay well in your family. Stay with the 'maa-mati-manusher' movement. The fight for this right to collect people's dues will continue. We will win this fight."

Trinamool Spokesperson Kunal Ghosh emphasized that Abhishek Banerjee had kept his promise made on October 3 when he assured the people of Bengal that if the Centre failed to release the money, he would arrange for the funds.

BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya responded to the development, stating, "Abhishek Banerjee announced financial benefits only for those who accompanied him to Delhi. We saw who were those who accompanied him. Trinamool has been paying their ornament-worn workers. People of Bengal already understood how Trinamool deprived them." The aid distribution has become a talking point, especially as TMC chief and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee prepares for another round of protest in Delhi.
