New Delhi: Winters are set to intensify in northern India as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a further drop in mercury by two to three degrees in the coming days. The weather department also anticipates increased fog in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab starting from November 28.

"The weather in the national capital Delhi is currently cloudy and will continue for the next 12-18 hours," stated IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani. "The weather will be clear from tomorrow, and the temperature is expected to fall by 2 to 3 degrees at night. Fog will increase in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab from November 28," he added.

On Sunday, the weather department predicted a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of very light rain or drizzle in Delhi from Sunday night. The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday and a minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average.

There could be shallow to moderate fog after the rain, according to the IMD. The city recorded a relative humidity of 78 per cent on Sunday evening.

In the hilly regions, the minimum temperature dropped below the freezing point at most places in Kashmir, officials reported on Saturday, as per a media report. Except for Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, all other weather stations in the valley experienced sub-zero night temperatures, the MeT officials said.

As per the media report, the minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital, Srinagar, was recorded at minus 1 degree Celsius on Friday night – down from 0.9 degrees Celsius the previous night. The minimum temperature on Friday night was one degree below the normal for this part of the season, they added.
