CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin will visit Japan on May 23 to seek more investments in the state. The minister was speaking to reporters on Tuesday after laying the foundation stone for Japanese major Mitsubishi's new AC plant in Chennai. He said that he would be inviting Japanese companies for the investment meet to be held in Tamil Nadu in January 2024.

The CM added that his journey to Japan will strengthen India-Japan friendship.
Stalin said he would urge Japanese industrialists to invest in the State while speaking at an event in Chennai on Tuesday when the Tamil Nadu government inked an MoU with Mitsubishi Electric to establish an AC and compressor manufacturing plant.

At the ceremony were Thangam Thenarasu, the Minister of Tamil Nadu Industries, Kazhuhiko Tamura, the MD of Mitsubishi Electric India, Yasumichi Tazunoki, the Group President of Mitsubishi, and Masayuki Taga, the Consul General of Japan in Chennai.

The Chief Minister had undertaken only single foreign trip after he assumed office on May 7, 2021.
An investment of Rs 6,000 crore was made to the state as a result of the trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

MK Stalin, the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu took office on May 7, 2021, succeeding Edappadi K. Palaniswami. MK Stalin is a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party and has been involved in politics since the 1970s. Prior to becoming Chief Minister, he has held various positions in the state government and the DMK party, including Deputy Chief Minister and President of the party. He is the son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and is known for his progressive views and social welfare policies.
