TN ministers take stock of Cyclone hit Delta region

Tamil Nadu Higher Education and Agriculture Minister KP Anbalagan and Food Minister R Kamaraj inspected the flood-hit areas of Tiruvarur on Monday and assured compensation for damaged crops after the proper assessment of damage. Apart from the relief camps,ministers also reviewed samba and thaladi fields under water. Addressing reporters, Minister Kamaraj said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was very particular about the safety of the people as he promised them during his visits after Cyclone Gaja devastation across the Delta region. 

As many as 42,764 persons from the low lying areas have been shifted to more than 211 camps established in Tiruvarur. People at the camps and at the vulnerable spots has been provided with the basic requirements, including milk for the children. The Minister said, as per the latest assessment in Tiruvarur, 54,627 hectare paddy fields have been submerged while 1,606 houses were damaged due to the continuous heavy rains and as many as 132 cattle died after the cyclone. 

Another team of Ministers led by SP Velumani and C Vijaya Baskar inspected Nagapattinam district which was severely affected by successive cyclones Nivar and Burevi and consoled the people. As per the assessment, 60,000 hectare paddy field has been submerged in Nagapattinam district as there were breeches in as many as 172 places in the water bodies across the district. Around 60,583 persons have been shifted to as many as 191 camps and they were distributed with food, water and other basic requirements. Three persons died in the district due to the cyclone, the Minister assured to get compensation to the family members. Similarly, as many as 252 cattle died and the Ministers assured compensation to the owners.
