Chennai: The Congress released its manifesto for Tamil Nadu for the April 6 Assembly elections in the state, making a slew of actions including promises to abolish NEET and close liquor shops
Tamil Nadu Congress president KS Azhagiri announced that 500 youths will be imparted training in every district for government employments. " We will provide tax exemption for startups and new entrepreneurs for at least five years," he said. Further, special legislation will be brought against honour killing crimes, the Congress manifesto said.
"After our government comes, we will take steps to close liquor shops. To protect intercaste marriages and prevent honour killings, a separate law will be passed. We will take all steps to abolish NEET exam," he added.
The party, that will go to the polls in alliance with MK Stalin-led DMK, has also promised in its manifesto equal representation of women in education and employment. New Tamil Nadu specific farm laws will be introduced instead of the laws brought in by the central government, it said.
Promise for increasing the reservation for government school students who clear NEET in medical courses from 7.5 percent to 10 percent is also made in the Congress manifesto.
Steps for the empowerment of local bodies, efforts to bring back legislative council in Tamil Nadu, doorstep delivery of ration for elderly and retired persons were other measures the Congress announced taking if elected to power.
