Chennai: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will run 16,768 buses for the Pongal festival in the state from January 11 to 13. According to the office of Tamil Nadu Transport Minister R.S. Raja Kannappan, 10,468 buses would operate from Chennai, with 6,468 plying in other areas of the state.
Around 2,100 buses a day run from Chennai to other parts of the state, according to the state transport corporation. In addition, between January 11 and 13, around 8,000 special buses will be put into service.
The department would also make preparations for the passengers' return journey. A total of 10,097 buses will be used to transport commuters back to the city, with 6,612 buses carrying commuters to other parts of the state. From January 16 to 18, these buses will run. The state department, on the other hand, stated that buses for the return journey after January 16 have yet to be notified and will be dependent on the lockdown limitations.
Pongal is a harvest festival in Tamil Nadu that commemorates the Tamil New Year and is held from January 13 to 17.
