Pilot Abhinandan Vardhaman is credited with a kick shot that knocks down a PAFF 16 in a high shot engagement. It may be mentioned that the Pakistan-backed militant outfit carried out a suicide attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 44 Indian soldiers. India had then entered the Pakistani border and destroyed a number of terrorist hideouts.
Pakistan had then sent its Air Force planes to attack the Indian border, but India forced them to go back. In the same operation, India's Zambian pilot Abhinandan shot down a Pakistani plane. During the same operation, his plane crashed and was arrested by the Pakistani Army, after which the Indian government had issued a stern warning to Pakistan to release the pilot at the earliest. The abhinandan present was released by Pakistan at 9:20 p.m. Indian time on March 1, 2019 at the Wagah border.
