Kochi: The birthplace of Adi Guru Shankaracharya is Kalady, Kerala. Today on Thursday (September 1), PM Modi is going to come to this holy land. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's program to reach 'Adi Shankar Janmabhoomi Kshetram' from Kochi airport. Those temples still exist in Kalady, where the mother of Shankaracharya used to worship centuries ago. At the same place, today is Sringeri Math. There is an ancient story behind the name of this place as Kalady.

Story of Kalady Name:-

It is said that earlier the Periyar river used to flow at some distance from the village. One day Shankaracharya's mother fainted while going toward the river. After this Shankaracharya prayed to Lord Krishna, after which Shri Krishna blessed him that the river would follow in his footsteps. After this Shankaracharya brought the Periyar river very close to the village while walking. Kalady in Hindi means footprint. At this place 'Aryamba ka Vrindavan', that is, the tomb of Shankaracharya's mother, is also present. Jagadguru's parents used to worship in the centuries-old Shri Krishna temple located here.

A beautiful Kirti Stambh has been constructed here by Kalady Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. Shankaracharya's father was a priest in the Manikmangalam Karthayani temple at Kalady. A university has also been built here to do research on Sanskrit. At the same time, a branch of Ramakrishna Math of Belur is also present near Sringeri. During his visit today, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of a Veda Pathshala here. The birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya was unclear for a thousand years but was discovered in 1910 by Satchidananda Sivabhivama Narasimha Bharati (33rd heir of Sringeri Math) and Maharaja Moolam Thirunnal Rama Varma of Travancore.

 

After which in 1927, Chandrashekhar Bharti established Vedanta Pathshala here. Shankaracharya University was built in 1991. PM Modi's effort is to present Adi Shankaracharya as a symbol of India's cultural unity. Because Shankaracharya united the nation and Hindus. The Prime Minister had also unveiled a statue of Shankaracharya in Kedarnath. A 108-feet tall statue of Jagadguru is also being built in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, the Prime Minister will also gift a new metro line to Kochi.
