At the same time, diesel remains at Rs 96.67 per liter in Delhi and Rs 104.77 per liter in Mumbai. In Kolkata, a liter of petrol is being sold for Rs 115.12, while diesel is priced at Rs 99.83 per litre. Apart from this, petrol is being sold in Chennai at the rate of Rs 110.85 per liter and diesel at the rate of Rs 100.94 per liter. Petrol is being sold beyond Rs 100 per liter in most states of the country. Explain that due to the different rates of VAT on vehicle fuel at the state level, the prices of petrol and diesel are different in the cities.
