Hyderabad: Ugadi has been important and historic festival of the Hindus, with medieval texts and inscriptions recording major charitable donations to Hindu temples and community centers on this day. On the auspicious day of Ugadi (Gudi Padwa), which marks the beginning of a new year and the arrival of the spring season, there is a celebratory mood across the South India states. Popularly celebrated in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, the festival marks the first day in the Hindu lunisolar calendar.

On the day, people wear new clothes, make rangolis and decorate their house entrances with mango leaves. The Hindu Gods Kartikeya and Ganesh are worshipped on this day.
