REvil has been assaulting high-tech organisations for years by installing harmful software, encrypting information, and extorting money to unlock it. The Russian internal security agency, the FSB, has now arrested many members of the REvil hacking organisation at the request of the US government.

In a raid on 14 members of the gang, the FSB seized 426 million rubles ($5.6 million), as well as more than $600,000 in bitcoin and 20 expensive cars. These all REvil hackers are living with Russian citizenship, on the other hand, will not be extradited to the United States.

"The Russian FSB has established the whole makeup of the REvil criminal community and the involvement of its members in the unlawful circulation of means of payment, as well as documentation of illegal operations," the spy service was reported as saying in a report released on Friday. Computer equipment and cryptocurrency wallets were also confiscated by the agency. "The results of the operation have been disclosed to representatives of the appropriate US authorities," the agency added.

All these tense situations and all evil deeds the US Govt requested Russia to take action against those who are involved in groups operating within the nation. The major ransomware assault against Colonial Pipeline in the United States in May 2021 was related to REvil hackers. In May, REvil was also responsible for a cyberattack against meat supplier JBS, which resulted in the closure of the company's meat processing factories across the United States.

According to a report by McAfee Enterprise, ransomware had a strong second quarter in 2021, securing its spot as a high-profile cyber agenda issue for the US administration following the Colonial Pipeline incident.
