New Delhi: The process of reinstatement of soldiers in the armed forces is about to start in a new way. It has been named 'Tour of Duty'. It will be launched soon with the intention of providing employment to the youth in a low budget. Preparations for this have been going on for almost two years. Under this campaign, officers and soldiers are to be reinstated in the armed forces on a fixed short-term contract at low government expenditure. Under this, the working time can be about three years.

The recruitment of soldiers in the armed forces has been drastically cut in the last two years due to the Corona epidemic. As per official records, there are currently 1,25,364 vacancies in the Army, Air Force and Navy. The top leadership is expected to approve the proposal. Briefing on 'Tour of Duty' has been given at the Ministry of Defense this week. This scheme was brought by Army Chief General MM Naravane in 2020. Its size and scope have been discussed at the top levels of government in recent months.

The final contours of this plan have not been revealed yet. Its purpose was to reinstate soldiers for both general and special duties for a fixed period of three years. This is likely to change the concept of permanent recruitment in the armed forces. Under the new process, most of the soldiers will be decommissioned at the end of three years. They will get help from armed forces for further employment opportunities. Corporate India is believed to be interested in reserving jobs for trained youth who have served their country.
