Central labor organizations can strike across the country on 8 January. Earlier, representatives of labor organizations met with Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar on Thursday. According to the organizations, any of their demands in the meeting have not been resolved and due to this, they can carry forward their proposed plan of Bharat Bandh on January 8. According to 10 central trade unions, they are going to strike in protest against the anti-labor policies of the central government.

A joint statement issued by 10 central trade unions said that the proposed general strike could take place on January 8, 2020. The statement said that during the meeting, the minister told the representatives of the unions that the government was taking all necessary steps for the welfare of the workers and that the laws brought on the Labor Code are steps taken in the same direction. The unions say that the Labor Code has been introduced to impose 'slavery' on the workers. These unions include AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, and UTUC.

The joint statement said that the minister has not resolved any issues being raised repeatedly by the central trade unions. According to the organizations, these issues are related to unemployment, minimum wage, social security, and 14-point demands. According to trade unions, the government has not organized a tripartite Indian Labor Conference since 2015. According to the labor organizations, during the meeting with the minister, the problems of the employees of the auto sector were also made known to the minister.
