Regrettably, the Mahamasina Stadium has witnessed similar unfortunate incidents in the past. With a seating capacity of around 41,000 people, the venue has experienced fatal crowd-related incidents before. In a previous occurrence, a crush transpired prior to a football match that pitted Madagascar against Senegal.

This match held significance as it served as a qualifier for the 2018 African Cup of Nations. During this incident, one person lost their life, and a distressing 37 others were left injured.

Additionally, the stadium's history was marred by a stampede that occurred at a concert in 2019, leading to the tragic demise of at least 15 individuals.
