Chennai: A massive collision between an SUV and a state government bus took place near Chengam in the district. In this accident, seven people including 5 workers from Assam lost their lives on the spot. The SUV collided with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus coming from Bengaluru on the Tindivanam-Krishnagiri National Highway on Monday night, police said. There were about 11 people in the car, most of whom were workers. 

Of the 11 people traveling in the SUV, seven died on the spot, while the injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Tiruvannamalai. The deceased have been identified as Bhinmal Teerth, Kuncha Rai, Dallu, Nicholas, Narayan Sethi and driver Puneet Kumar from Assam and Kamaraj from Krishnagiri district.

Reports say that they all worked in a factory near Hosur and were returning after a trip to Puducherry on the day of Ayudha Puja. Police said there were no injuries to the passengers and crew members of the bus. However, a case has been registered.
