Wayanad: A devastating landslide struck Wayanad in the early hours today, claiming at least 84 lives and leaving many trapped under the debris as heavy rainfall continues to batter Kerala.

Over 250 personnel from the Fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF, and local emergency teams are tirelessly working on the rescue mission. Additional NDRF teams have been dispatched to the site for immediate assistance.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured that all possible rescue operations are being coordinated to manage the landslide crisis in Wayanad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and has assured Chief Minister Vijayan of full support from the central government to handle the situation.

The Prime Minister announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern and assured support after speaking with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. "Distressed by the landslides in Wayanad. My thoughts are with those affected, and rescue operations are ongoing. I’ve assured all possible assistance from the Centre," Modi stated on social media.
