New Delhi: Telecom regulator TRAI has banned the efforts of telecom companies for allegedly ending internet neutrality and discriminating with respect to internet. TRAI has asked Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea to stop those special telecom plans, under which it promised to give faster speed to certain consumers.
Questions were being raised whether telecom companies have developed a preferential network at the cost of declining the services of other customers. According to the PTI report, a source has said that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked both the telecom operators to withdraw these special plans for the interim period. TRAI has written to both operators - Airtel and Vodafone Idea in this regard and has asked them to give information about their plans, in which some preference users have been promised high speed internet.
TRAI has asked whether the preference for high paying customers in those particular plans has come at the cost of declining service for other customers. TRAI has questioned operators on how they are protecting the interests of other ordinary customers. When contacted in this regard, an Airtel spokesperson said, 'We are full of enthusiasm to provide the best network and service to all our customers. Apart from this, the company wants to increase service and accountability for post-paid customers.
