TRAI seeks answers from Idea-Vodafone on Priority Plan

New Delhi: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given Vodafone Idea an extension till September 4 to respond to the 'show cause notice' given on the 'Priority Plan'. Sources have given information about this. TRAI had last week issued a show-cause notice to telecom company Vodafone Idea Ltd for lack of transparency in its 'priority plan' and its 'misleading'. On this, the company had to give its reply by 31 August.

A source related to this development said that the company had sought some more time from TRAI in this matter, in response to which it has been given time till September 4. The company has offered 4G fixed speed and preference to the network to those taking a fixed amount of mobile plan. TRAI has expressed objection to this 'Red X' plan of the company. No response from Vodafone Idea has been received in this regard.

The regulators are ascertaining whether if some customers are given priority in the network, it does not affect the service of other customers or violates any rules. Earlier, Vodafone Idea told TRAI that telecom companies like it are under financial pressure. Companies have to reduce prices and have to take the cost down.
